Sugar-Free Til Ladoo is a healthy version of a classic Indian Til Gul recipe. Instead of using jaggery or sugar, I used dates to sweeten this Til ladoo.
Makar Sankranti is an Indian festival celebrated by the Hindu population annually on January 14th. It represents the beginning of Spring.
Different states have different names for this festival. Makar Sankranti (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh) is known as Pongal (Chennai), Ugadi (Karnataka), Lohri (Punjab), Kicheri (Uttarpradesh), and Bhogali Bihu in Assam and West Bengal.
About this recipe

Til Gul Ladoo also known as Tilache Ladoo, is a traditional ladoo recipe where roasted sesame seeds are combined with jaggery and made into small balls. Til Gul is prepared especially for the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Sesame Seeds are packed with protein and are believed to generate warmth in the body during winter.
I wanted to make this traditional til gul ladoo without jaggery. Luckily I had dates, so I came up with this recipe for sugar-free til ladoo.
I have to say this sugarless til ladoo tastes out of this world. The dates add the right amount of sweetness. Combined with the nuttiness of the sesame seeds, these ladoos are packets with textured flavor. The best thing about this recipe is it only needs two main ingredients; sesame seeds and dates.
Ingredients Notes for Sugar Free Til Ladoo
- Til (Sesame Seeds): sesame seeds are known as til in many of the Indian languages. For this recipe, I am using white sesame seeds. These are available in Indian as well as Asian stores.
- Dates: I used soft pitted dates. However, you can use any dates you want. These are found in most grocery stores.
- Water and Butter is added as required.

The process to make these Til ladoos are super simple. You can check out my You Tube Channel or the recipe card below to see how it is done.
